Barnaby Fitzpatrick, 1st Baron Upper Ossory, Margaret Butler [1] Barnaby Fitzpatrick, 2nd Baron Upper Ossory (c. 1535 – 11 September 1581), was educated at the court of Henry VIII of England with Edward, Prince of Wales. While he was in France, he corresponded regularly with King Edward VI. He was active in suppressing Wyatt's rebellion in 1553.

Whig politician; succeeded as 2nd Earl of Upper Ossory [I] 1758; MP 1767-94; FRS 1780, FSA 1793; created Baron Upper Ossory [GB] 1794; though he loved gaming and Newmarket, he ‘had good sense without vanity, and good nature without weakness’ (G. E. Cockayne, The Complete Peerage); one of the pall-bearers at Joshua Reynolds’s funeral; older brother of Richard Fitzpatrick.

Three months later, on 24 June 1769, the Duke married Elizabeth Wrottesley (1 November 1745 – 25 May 1822), daughter of the Sir Richard Wrottesley, 7th Baronet, the Dean of Worcester.
