As soldiers, École Polytechnique students made their mark during the Battle of Paris in 1814, the July Revolution of 1848, and both World Wars. As scientists and engineers, they have contributed to significant advances in science, and to the economic rise of France following the Franco-Prussian War, with the development of railways, the creation of new industries and the modernization of cities.
Located at the entrance to the Ecole Polytechnique campus, the Drahi X-Novation Center is a place of innovation on the Paris-Saclay plateau of more than 5000m2. It was created in 2015 thanks to the patronage of Patrick Drahi, former student of the École polytechnique (1983) and president of the Altice group.

Les filles font une entrée remarquée dans ses rangs en 1972. En 1976, l'École quitte, à regret, la Montagne Ste Geneviève pour s'installer dans des locaux plus vastes à Palaiseau, au Sud de Paris. L'École Polytechnique s'est résolument engagée sur la voie de l'international.
