19 de may. de 2024 · Quick Reference. ( c. 1500–52). The foundation of Somerset's career was that he was elder brother of Jane Seymour, Henry VIII's third wife, and therefore uncle to Edward VI. His progress was by no means spectacular until his sister's marriage in May 1536. A week later he was made Viscount Beauchamp and the following year earl of Hertford.
Edward (parfois Édouard) Seymour (né vers 1506 – 22 janvier 1552 ), 1er comte d'Hertford (1537 – 1552) puis 1er duc de Somerset (1547 – 1552), fut lord-protecteur d’ Angleterre durant la minorité de son neveu Édouard VI, depuis la mort d’ Henri VIII en 1547 jusqu’à son incrimination en 1549 .
Orígenes. Seymour fue el tercer hijo de Edward Seymour, Lord Beauchamp (m. 1612), hijo mayor y heredero aparente de Edward Seymour, I conde de Hertford (1539–1621) (hijo de Edward Seymour, I duque de Somerset, Lord Protector de Inglaterra), y de Honora Rogers, hija de Sir Richard Rogers de Bryanstone, Dorset.

He was sent to the Tower in 1551 but was later released, and became heir to his elder brother, from whom he inherited Maiden Bradley, where today Bradley House is the seat of his descendant, the present Duke of Somerset.
