The opening of the Imperial Public Library took place on January 2 (14), 1814. At the end of the 1820s, there was a need to expand the library. The general plan of the new building, which opens onto Ostrovsky Square, was created by K.I. Rossi. The building appeared in 1828, and the exterior decoration was completed in 1832.
On 3 November, the National Library of Russia hosted the online concert as a part of an annual event "Night of the Arts". This year, the event was held in Russia under the motto "Art unites". The concert marks the anniversaries of two Russian composers: Peter Tchaikovsky (180th birthday) and Nikolai Medtner (140th birthday).
