Caius aims to admit 6 - 8 students per year in HSPS, with no particular preference for which subjects they wish to study within the degree. The College has a long history of supporting the various subjects brought together in HSPS, and this degree allows students and Fellows both a fabulous opportunity to explore and develop their academic interests together.
Im Jahre 1557 wurde das College nach einer großzügigen Spende vom englischen Hofarzt und ehemaligen Studenten John Caius unter dem Namen Gonville & Caius College ein zweites Mal gegründet. John Caius war Master des Colleges von 1559 bis kurz vor seinem Tod im Jahre 1573. Das College nahm 1979 erstmals Frauen als Studierende und Lehrende auf.

In the 2023 world rankings by Times Higher Education, the Cambridge Department of Psychology was ranked second, just behind Stanford, and in the 2024 UK rankings by the Complete University Guide, the Cambridge Department was ranked first.
The College has a vibrant scientific community, including the student-driven Caius Natural Sciences Society. The Director of Studies in Biological Sciences is Dr David Summers (Genetics), and the Directors of Studies in Physical Sciences are Prof John Ellis (Physics) and Dr Andrew Bond (Chemistry).
Caius has a long tradition in economics: it has been established as a subject at Caius for over one hundred years.
