Kingsblood Royal. Jennifer Delton. In 1947 Sinclair Lewis wrote a now forgotten best-seller that was advertised as "the story of a man who resigned from the white. race" (Kingsblood 9). Kingsblood Royal told the story of a white banker who overcomes his Rotarian destiny by embracing the newly discovered 1/32 Negro within him.
Kingsblood Royal 1 Mr. Blingham, and may he fry in his own cooking-oil, was assistant treasurer of the Flaver-Saver Company. He was driving from New York to Winnipeg, accompanied by Mrs. Blingham and their horrible daughter.
The novel is about Neil Kingsblood, an up-and-coming young banker with solid middle-class credentials in post WWII Minnesota. He looks into his genealogy because his father suspects a family connection to the English throne. What his research ironically turns up is that one of his ancestors may, in fact, have been a black man.
