Her brother Hewitt and his wife, Marian, also both served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. Hewitt was a surgeon and Marian a nurse. Margaret Martha Brooke enrolled as a Nursing Sister Dietician on March 9, 1942 at the rank of Sub-Lieutenant.

  4. 29 de jul. de 2022 · Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Margaret Brooke returned to its homeport of Halifax on May 26 after nearly a month at sea for warm weather trials. The Trials are part of the ship’s post-acceptance program to demonstrate that the ship can operate safely in both the icy Arctic waters and the warm southern seas.

  5. Margaret Martha Brooke was born on April 10, 1915, and spent her youth on the family’s remote Saskatchewan farm. From an early age, three things were abundantly clear about Brooke: she was hard working, bookish, and deeply caring. People commented on her empathetic nature – she always prioritized the needs and welfare of her family and peers.

In January 1943 Brooke was named a Member (Military Division) of the Order of the British Empire for her “gallantry and courage whilst in the water in attempting to save the life of another nursing sister.”. Brooke later told friends she thought she herself was saved because of two four-leaf clovers given to her by a patient.
