Tycho Brahe nacque nel 1546 a Knutstorp, piccolo paese della Scania, allora appartenente al Regno di Danimarca . Il padre, Otte Brahe, era un nobile cortigiano e comandante militare del regno. Anche la madre, Beate Bille, apparteneva alla nobiltà. Entrambe le famiglie erano ricchissime e fra le più importanti della Danimarca.
Tycho Brahes mest betydningsfulde indsats var, at han indså, at fremskridt i astronomien forudsatte systematiske observationer nat efter nat, og at det krævede instrumenter med den størst mulige nøjagtighed. Med dette for øje opførte han observatorierne Uranienborg og Stjerneborg på øen Hven i Øresund og havde som assistent sin søster Sophie Brahe .
Tycho (1546-1601), despite being a Danish noble, turned to astronomy rather than politics. The second child and eldest son of Otto Brahe and his wife, Beate Bille, Tycho (Danish, Tyge) was born at the family seat, Knudstrup. He had five sisters and five brothers, including his still–born twin.
