This foreboding fortress towers high over Edinburgh from upon its rocky perch, known as Castle Rock. The land the castle exists upon has been occupied by humans since at least the Bronze Age, with the castle’s construction commencing later in the 12th century.

Perhaps the most frequent sighting is of young Alexander Irvine, son of the 20th Laird of Drum, who died aged just six in 1865. Over the years, many people have reported seeing the ghost of Little Alexander, and hearing his haunting laughter throughout the castle.

Many reported ghosts haunt Glamis Castle, however, it’s widely believed that there are at least nine ghosts in total that call the castle home. How accurate this spectral headcount is is open for debate of course. What’s for sure however is the fact Glamis Castle is considered one of the most haunted places in Scotland.
