The Brandenburg Concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV 1046–1051, original title: Six Concerts à plusieurs instruments) are a collection of six instrumental works presented by Bach to Christian Ludwig, Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt, in 1721 (though probably composed earlier).
Margrave Christian Ludwig of Brandenburg-Schwedt (14 May 1677 - 3 September 1734), a member of the House of Hohenzollern, was a Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt and a military officer of the Prussian Army. The margravial title was given to princes of the Prussian Royal House and did not express a territorial status.

Originally titled ‘Concerto for many instruments’, they’re now known as the Brandenburg Concertos after Bach submitted them to Margrave Christian Ludwig of Brandenburg-Schwedt in 1721 in the hope of getting a job.
