Yet Gonzales took charge to get the break and then held serve from 30-40 down to complete a magnificent 16-18, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 triumph.
Pancho Gonzalez holds the record as being the oldest player ever (44 years old) to win an Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) sanctioned tournament. At the age of 47, he finally retired from professional tennis. For over 25 years Gonzalez was consistently ranked as one of the Top 10 players in the world, a record that stands today.
Francisco Olegario Segura Cano ( Guayaquil, 20 de junio de 1921 - Carlsbad, 18 de noviembre de 2017), más conocido como Pancho Segura o "Segoo", fue un destacado tenista ecuatoriano de las décadas de 1940 y 1960, tanto aficionado como profesional.
