Sus tipografías estaban influenciadas por los tipos fundidos en Holanda que como ya se mencionó antes, por la época de Caslon erán muy comunes en Inglaterra. Caslon es una tipografía romana o con serifas, que se caracteriza por tener terminaciones en ángulos rectos y una modulación moderada.

Tras su muerte su hijo William Caslon II heredó el negoció, el cual fue pasando de generación en generación, hasta que en 1792, Caslon III vende su participación del negoció a su madre y a su nuera viuda. Caslon III compro la fundición de Joseph Jackson, cambiándole el nombre a Caslon & Son.
