Broken Social Scene began in 1999 as a project between Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning. It was in spirit a continuation of K.C. Accidental - a collaboration between Kevin Drew and Charles Spearin, also later to become a member of the group. The initial sound of Broken Social Scene was that of mostly instrumental, home-recorded post-rock.
