Part I (Wargames) includes five of Sehlieffen's general staff rides (1894, 1897, 1899, 1901, 1903), four of his tactical-strategic problems (1892, 1896, 1903, 1905), and his important 1905 Kriegsspiel.

Feldmaresciallo e stratega, servì come capo di stato maggiore dell'esercito imperiale dal 1891 al 1905 . È famoso per aver ideato l'omonimo piano militare concepito per sconfiggere la Francia e la Russia .

To be sure, “In a war against France alone he (Schlieffen) favored an all-out attack, but in a two-front war he insisted on a purely counter-offensive strategy.”[6] Holmes argues the original Schlieffen Plan was based on a counter-offensive strategy in the case of a two-front war.
