Prince Carl (Karl) of Solms-Braunfels (27 July 1812 – 13 November 1875), was a German prince and military officer in both the Austrian army and in the cavalry of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. As Commissioner General of the Adelsverein , he spearheaded the establishment of colonies of German immigrants in Texas.
Prince Alexander Frederick Louis of Solms-Braunfels (1807–1867); married in 1863 Baroness Louise von Landsberg-Velen (1835–1894). Prince Frederick William Carl of Solms-Braunfels (1812–1875); married firstly from 1834-1841 ( morganatic marriage ) Louise Beyrich, and secondly, in 1845, Princess Sophie von Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg (1814–1876).
March 18 1845. Prince Carl crossed the Guadalupe River at the ford of the military road, El Camino Real, which stretched from Nacogdoches to San Antonio. March 21 1845. On Good Friday, emigrant wagons forded the river at the same spot as Prince Carl, marking the founding of New Braunfels. April 28 1845.
