  1. Anne of Cleves' Early Life. Born in Dusseldorf in 1515, Anne of Cleves was the daughter of Maria of Julich-Berg and John III, Duke of Cleves. Her traditional birthdate is thought to be 22 September 1515, although some historians have suggested a date in June or July. Anne had three siblings: a brother Wilhelm and two sisters, Sibylla, and Amelia.

I slipped the illumination into the last two weeks of my exhibition, Now and Forever: The Art of Medieval Time , enabling visitors to compare this late work by the artist to Catherine’s Hours that he painted about twenty years prior.
