Anne of Cleves' Early Life. Born in Dusseldorf in 1515, Anne of Cleves was the daughter of Maria of Julich-Berg and John III, Duke of Cleves. Her traditional birthdate is thought to be 22 September 1515, although some historians have suggested a date in June or July. Anne had three siblings: a brother Wilhelm and two sisters, Sibylla, and Amelia.

19 de abr. de 2021 · Not only did we get the only known leaf from a fifteenth manuscript illuminated by the Master of Catherine of Cleves, but we also got it for free. I slipped the illumination into the last two weeks of my exhibition, Now and Forever: The Art of Medieval Time , enabling visitors to compare this late work by the artist to Catherine’s Hours that he painted about twenty years prior.

Catherine of Cleves (1417–1476) is known for two things: her Book of Hours and her protracted political battle against her husband. In 1430 she married Arnold of Egmond (1410 –1473), becoming duchess of Guelders.
Its 157 miniatures are by the gifted Master of Catherine of Cleves (active ca. 1435–60), who is named after this book. The Master of Catherine of Cleves is considered the finest and most original illuminator of the medieval northern Netherlands, and this manuscript is his masterpiece.
Marie of Cleves or of Nevers ( Marie de Clèves, Marie de Nevers; 1553–1574), by marriage the Princess of Condé, was the wife of Henry, Prince of Condé, and an early love interest of King Henry III of France. She was the last child of Francis I of Cleves, Duke of Nevers, and Marguerite of Bourbon-Vendôme, elder sister of Antoine of Navarre .
