Alexander Stewart, Duke of Ross was the fourth and last son of King James IV of Scotland and his queen Margaret Tudor. Career He died in infancy, but during his short life he was heir presumptive to the throne of the Kingdom of Scotland.

In January of 1488, James III attempted to gain supporters among the Scottish Lairds by naming James Stewart the Duke of Ross, and elevating four other Lairds to full Lords of Parliament.
