John II (21 March 1492 – 18 May 1557) was the Count Palatine of Simmern from 1509 until 1557. John II was born in Simmern in 1492 as the eldest surviving son of John I, Count Palatine of Simmern. Anna was the heiress of Frederick III, Count of Veldenz, the last from the Hohengeroldseck family to rule the county, and his wife Margaret of Nassau-Saarbrücken. In 1409, she married Stephen, Count Palatine of Simmern-Zweibrücken, thereby bringing the County of Veldenz into the possession of the Dukes of Palatinate-Zweibrücken.
