Honora Burke became Honora FitzJames, Duchess of Berwick on Tweed (c. 1675 – 1698), married Patrick Sarsfield and went into French exile where he followed her soon afterwards. After his death at the Battle of Landen , she married James FitzJames, 1st Duke of Berwick , an illegitimate son of James II .

Richard was born in 1572, the second but eldest surviving son of Ulick Burke and his wife Honora Burke. His father was the 3rd Earl of Clanricarde. His father's family was Old English and descended from William de Burgh (died 1206) who arrived in Ireland during the reign of King Henry II, and was the founder of the House of Burgh in Ireland.
Ulick and Honora had six sons: Richard (died an infant) Richard Burke, 4th Earl of Clanricarde (1572–1635) Thomas, who married Ursula Malby, daughter of Sir Nicholas Malby and widow of Anthony Brabazon; William (died 1625), from whom later Earls descended; Edmond Burke (died 1639) —and at least two daughters: Mary (c. 1566 – before July 1604)
Honora married twice: to General Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan c. Jan 1689, who died in 1693. to James FitzJames, 1st Duke of Berwick-Upon-Tweed, son of James II Stuart on 26 March 1695. She died of Turburculosis 16 Jan 1697/8 at Pezénas, Languedoc, France. Child of Lady Honora Bourke and James FitzJames, 1st Duke of Berwick-Upon-Tweed.
