Franz Marc. Munich, 1880-Verdun, 1916. Print page. Franz Moriz Wilhelm Marc was a founding member of the German Expressionist group known as Der Blauer Reiter (The Blue Rider). Son of a landscape painter, he began studying at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich under the guidance of Gabriel von Hackl and Wilhelm von Dietz in 1900.

Tijekom svog kratkog života je Franz Marc naslikao 244 slika u ulju, 261 akvarela i crteža, 94 dopisnica, 8 slika na staklu, 11 skica na papiru, 11 radova o umjetnosti, 9 veziva i 15 plastika. Prve slike u ulju su nastale 1902.
