La tentación de San Antonio (del alemán: Versuchung des heiligen Antonius o Heiliger Antonius, von Dämonen gepeinigt, literalmente traducidos como: La tentación de San Antonio y San Antonio, atormentado por los Demonios) es un grabado realizado el siglo XV por el pintor alemán Martin Schongauer (h.1448-1491).
Martin Schongauer. Colmar 1450 - Breisach 1491 The son of a goldsmith, Martin Schongauer was born in Colmar ca 1450. He spent his early apprenticeship years in his father's workshop, where he learned both drawing and engraving. He is first mentioned in records in 1465, when he enrolled at Leipzig University.
Martin Schongauer imparted a great deal of majesty and naturalism to this mythical beast, whose depiction is more effective than many of the artist’s images of animals from the natural world. The self-assured draftsmanship in this late work reveals Schongauer’s artistic maturity; most telling is the shape and texture of the feathers, which are suggested with a few bold strokes.
Está datada en el año 1473. Mide 200 cm de alto y 115 cm de ancho. Esta Virgen del rosal de Schongauer formaba parte de un retablo y se encuentra actualmente en la iglesia de los dominicos de Colmar, Francia. El original tenía una forma rectangular y de un tamaño muy superior, estimado en 250 x 165 centímetros.

Martin Schongauer was trained as a painter, but his engravings are undoubtedly his most important contribution to the history of art. The larger part of his oeuvre focuses on religious subjects, but he also produced genre scenes, animal portraits, heraldry, and, from time to time, ornament and design.
Martin Schongauer, also known as Martin Schön or Hübsch Martin by his contemporaries, was an Alsatian engraver and painter. He was the most important printmaker north of the Alps before Albrecht Dürer, a younger artist who collected his work.
