Sir James Thornhill (25 luglio 1675 o 1676 - 4 maggio 1734) era un pittore inglese di soggetti storici operanti nella tradizione barocca italiana. Era responsabile di alcuni progetti murali di grandi dimensioni, tra cui la "Painted Hall" presso il Royal Hospital di Greenwich, i dipinti all'interno della cupola della Cattedrale di St Paul e lavori presso Chatsworth House e Wimpole Hall.
