Louise Glück was born on April 22, 1943, in New York City and grew up on Long Island. She was the eldest of the two daughters of Daniel Glück, a businessman, and Beatrice Glück. As a teenager, Glück suffered from anorexia nervosa. Though she was cured of it later, it has taken a toll in her teenage and young adult years.
