Magdalene Augusta of Anhalt-Zerbst. Johann August of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (17 February 1704 – 8 May 1767), was a German prince, member of the House of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg . He was born in Gotha, the fifth but second surviving son of Frederick II, Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and Magdalene Augusta of Anhalt-Zerbst .

HRH Augusta was one of only four Princesses of Wales who never became queen-consort, the others being Joan of Kent, Anne Neville, Cecily Neville, Diana Spencer Mountbatten-Windsor.

Princess Augusta of Cambridge (Augusta Caroline Charlotte Elizabeth Mary Sophia Louise; 19 July 1822 – 5 December 1916) was a member of the British royal family, a granddaughter of George III. She married into the Grand Ducal House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and became Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz .
The main royal is Augusta, Princess of Wales, who sits enthroned with her coronet beside and presumably commissioned the painting. Her children are dispersed around her: reading from left to right they are Prince George (the future George III, 1738-1820); Prince Edward (later Duke of York, 1739-67)) and Princess Augusta (later Duchess of Brunswick, 1737-1813).
