Aaron the High Priest ( Aharon Hakohen) was the first high priest of the Israelites, as recorded in the Hebrew Bible. He was born in Egypt and served in the Tabernacle throughout most of the 40 years that the Jews traveled through the desert. Aaron was the brother of Moses and Miriam, and the progenitor of all future priests ( kohanim ).

The God's Wife of Amun became the female counterpart of the high priest and some of the God's Wives had previously been high priestesses.
