John Frederick Kensett (born March 22, 1816, Cheshire, Connecticut, U.S.—died December 14, 1872, New York, New York) was an American landscape painter, the leader of the second generation of the Hudson River school artists. Kensett was trained as an engraver by his father, Thomas Kensett, and his uncle, Alfred Daggett, a banknote engraver.
