About Reflection (self portrait) “Reflection (self portrait)” is an evocative artwork by artist Lucian Freud, created in 1985. The medium of this expressive piece is oil on canvas, and it falls within the Expressionism movement. The dimensions of the work measure 51.2 by 56.2 centimeters.
Between 1946 and 1947, Freud lived for five months on the Greek Island of Poros. During his is time there he was inspired by the austerity and quality of light, which can be seen in this self-portrait. The artist depicts himself next to a wilting hyacinth in a pot. Freud would often choose decaying houseplants as subjects in his paintings.
