12 de may. de 2021 · Christ Church College in Oxford is one of the university’s most famous colleges, and attracts thousands of visitors every year. History of Christ Church The college is generally said to have been founded by King Henry VIII in 1546, but the original plans for it were drawn up by Thomas Wolsey in 1525, whilst at the zenith of his career.
Christ Church regularly works with schools and colleges to explore options for university study and demystify Oxford. We work with pupils in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, along with their teachers, careers advisers, parents and carers, encouraging young people from underrepresented backgrounds to apply to Oxford and supporting those who do.
Christ Church is unique among the Oxford and Cambridge colleges in possessing an important collection of Old Master paintings and drawings. The collection is housed in a purpose-built gallery designed by the architects Powell and Moya and was opened in 1968 by Queen Elizabeth II.
Oxford's cathedral at Christ Church is the college chapel as well as the cathedral church for the diocese. The beautiful building is home to a vibrant community with a rich worshipping tradition and a world famous cathedral choir. The cathedral is visited by thousands of people each year, who pray, worship or simply enjoy the stillness it inspires.

The Choir of Christ Church, Oxford, was founded nearly 500 years ago, and is justly famous for the youthfulness of its sound and its daring and adventurous musical programming. Since 1546, the Choir has been set apart from all other collegiate and cathedral choirs since it serves both an Oxford college and a diocese at the same time, in a unique and celebrated dual foundation.
About the college. Christ Church is home to a really welcoming and vibrant community of students and staff living in one of the most beautiful colleges in Oxford. Students at Christ Church can live in college accommodation throughout their degree and are lucky enough to eat subsidised meals in the famous (Harry Potter) dining hall.
