The map was issued to officers in Gallipoli and was to be laid over other maps of the area. The map shows towns, roads classified, railways, telegraph lines, forts, vegetation, spot heights, contours at approximately 100ft intervals and form lines.
The map below shows Gallipoli, located on the west coast of the "heel" of Italy's "boot." Once a fishing village, it still derives some income from fishing, but has become a prime tourist destination in Puglia, for folks that want a more laid-back vacation experience than they can find in Tuscany .

The peninsula is about 50 kilometers long from Cape Mastusia (the southernmost point) to the Thracian mainland. It borders the Aegean Sea to the east, the Gulf of Saros to the south, and the Dardanelle Strait to the west.
