Louis Armstrong (surnommé « Dippermouth », « Satchmo », « Satch » (abréviation de satchel-mouth, littéralement « bouche-sacoche ») ou « Pops ») né le 4 août 1901 à La Nouvelle-Orléans en Louisiane et mort le 6 juillet 1971 à New York, est un musicien et chanteur de jazz afro-américain, considéré comme un des jazzmen les plus emblématiques de l’histoire du jazz.

23 de may. de 2024 · Although Armstrong claimed to be born in 1900, various documents, notably a baptismal record, indicate that 1901 was his birth year. He grew up in dire poverty in New Orleans, Louisiana, when jazz was very young. As a child he worked at odd jobs and sang in a boys’ quartet. In 1913 he was sent to the Colored Waifs Home as a juvenile delinquent.
Satchmo at Symphony Hall has long been considered one of Louis Armstrong's greatest concert recordings. In commemoration of the 65th anniversary of this recording, Universal Music has released the concert complete for the first time. Thomas Cunniffe reviews the new version in this Retro Review.
