Elmore Leonard (2011) Elmore John Leonard junior (* 11.Oktober 1925 in New Orleans, Louisiana; † 20. August 2013 in Bloomfield Hills bei Detroit, Michigan) war ein US-amerikanischer Schriftsteller, der zunächst durch seine Western und später vor allem auch durch seine Kriminalromane sowie durch die Verfilmungen seiner Bücher bekannt wurde.
In 1950, fresh out of college and keen to make his name as a writer, Elmore Leonard decided he needed to pick a market, a big one, which would give him a better chance to be published while he learned to write. In choosing between crime and Westerns, the latter had an irresistible pull - Leonard loved movies set in the West.
Elmore Leonard writes with sparse, lean prose evoking the desert landscape and the tough people who pass through it. I can appreciate why so many of Leonard's stories have been turned into films - strong, deceptively simple storylines and great dialogue; the it's a short jump from novel to screenplay.
