    In 1995, following the Defence Cost Studies, a number of major changes to the College’s organization and structure commenced: the Joint Elementary Flying Training School moved from Topcliffe to Cranwell’s satellite airfield at Barkston Heath, and the Basic Flying Training School moved from Cranwell to Linton-on-Ouse.

  5. The unit left the airfield in June 1943. The airfield was also used for testing new types of aircraft. This included a short flight of a jet-powered Gloster aircraft by test pilot Lieutenant Gerry Sayer in 1941. Today, the airfield is still used by the RAF and is home to the officers’ training college.

  7. 21 de abr. de 2023 · In 1971 when our red and white Jet Provost T5A XW323 /9166M was new, it was based at the airfield of the officer training college at RAF Cranwell, Lincolnshire. It was selected for use for the pilot training of Flt Lt The Prince of Wales – now HM The King. His period of training was codenamed ‘Exercise Golden Eagle’.
