John Erskine, 6th earl of Mar (born February 1675, Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scot.—died May 1732, Aachen [Germany]) was a Scottish noble who led the Jacobite rebellion of 1715, an unsuccessful attempt to gain the British crown for James Edward, the Old Pretender, son of the deposed Stuart monarch James II.

Then leaving his hiding-place the Earl of Mar seized Stirling Castle, whereupon James marched against him, and he took refuge in England. Queen Elizabeth I interceded for him, but in vain. In October 1584 James VI gave a gift of Mar's clothes to Thomas Stewart, a brother of Alexander Stewart of Garlies.

[1] He married Amanda Kirsten Mitchell, daughter of David John Macfarlane Mitchell, [2] and has three children. Stewart's daughter is Olympic rower Katherine Douglas.
