They were married in Berlin on 18 February 1878, in a double ceremony that also included Princess Elisabeth Anna of Prussia's marriage to Frederick Augustus of Oldenburg. Charlotte's maternal uncles, the Prince of Wales and Duke of Connaught and Strathearn , attended the wedding, as did King Leopold II and Queen Marie Henriette of the Belgians .
Family. Born in Berlin, Frederick was the son of Prince Louis Charles of Prussia and Duchess Frederica of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, later Queen of Hanover, nephew of King Frederick William III of Prussia and stepson of Ernest Augustus, King of Hanover . Princess Charlotte of Wales was interested in Frederick in 1814 and hoped to marry him.

He was born at Queen's House, later renamed Buckingham Palace, on 27th January 1773. He was raised primarily by the royal governess Lady Charlotte Finch at Kew with two of his brothers Ernest and Adolphus.
