Administrative / Biographical History. Georgiana Cavendish (née Spencer), Duchess of Devonshire (1757–1806), was the eldest daughter of John Spencer, first Earl Spencer and his wife, Margaret Georgiana Spencer (née Poyntz). Of her four siblings, only two others survived to adulthood: George John Spencer, who became second Earl; and Henrietta.

Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire. Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, was one of the most charismatic figures in Georgian society. Affectionately known as Gee, she was renowned for her style and her involvement in politics. In 1774, at the age of 17, she married William Cavendish, the 5th Duke of Devonshire. The marriage would prove unhappy.
Georgiana had golden-red hair, a full face with a firm chin; Elizabeth dark hair, a straight nose, large dark eyes and a slightly receding chin. The principal portraits of the mature Georgiana are those by Angelica Kauffmann (c.1774), Gainsborough (1783), and the three by Reynolds (c.1775, 1784 and c.1785-89). 1758
