She married her first cousin, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, in 1840 and they had 9 children. She reigned for 63 years.
In 1917, King George V, the grandson of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, decided to change the family name from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to the House of Windsor. This change aimed to distance the British monarchy from its German heritage and to emphasize its British identity during a time of heightened nationalism.

Noted as a patron of the arts, Prince Albert was largely responsible for the Great Exhibition of 1851.

He shared a very strong emotional affection for his wife, such that when he untimely passed away in 1861, the queen wept bitterly for the rest of her life.
Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (Franz August Karl Albert Emanuel; 26 August 1819 – 14 December 1861) was the husband of Queen Victoria. As such, he was consort of the British monarch from their marriage on 10 February 1840 until his death in 1861.
