Edward Seymour, 16th Duke of Somerset. After a dinner with Edward VI on 16th October 1551, Seymour was arrested and taken to the Tower of London. On 1st December 1551, Seymour was tried by his peers. He pleaded “not guilty”. He defended himself skilfully and was acquitted of treason but found guilty of bringing men together to riot against the king.
