Claude Monet was a French artist known for painting in the style called Impressionism . Monet was famous during his lifetime, and his paintings remain popular today. They are on display in art museums around the world.
Claude Monet was born on November 14, 1840 in Paris, but his family moved to the port city of Le Havre, France while he was still young. He loved to draw as a child. He began drawing caricatures of people that were quite good. Even as a kid he was able to make some extra money drawing pictures of people.
In 1883 Claude Monet managed to earn enough money to move to Giverny, west of Paris, where he managed to buy the house he had been renting in 1890. He now had a place to return to after his frequent travels and the garden of his property, which he later managed to extend, provided constant inspiration for his work at home.

Filho de um modesto comerciante, quando tinha cinco anos, mudou-se com a família para Saint-Adresse, próximo ao porto de Le Havre, na Normandia. Monet desejava ser pintor e recebeu o incentivo da tia, Marie-Jeanne Lacadre, uma amante da pintura.
Claude Monet (1840 – 1926) was one of the founders of the French Impressionist school. In fact the term itself was taken from his the title of one of his works- Impressionist Sunrise. His style focused on the ‘impression’ of colour and shape where light was the subject of the painting rather than the object being painted.
