In 1842, after being (ninth) Master of the Quorn Hunt from 1827 to 1831, he took over the Mastership of the Grafton Hunt from George FitzRoy, 4th Duke of Grafton, his father's cousin, and remained its Master until 1862. On his retirement from the Mastership of the Quorn Hunt he sold that pack to Sir Harry Goodricke, 7th Bt.

The English dukes of Grafton are descended from Henry Fitzroy (1663–1690), the natural son of Charles II. by Barbara Villiers (countess of Castlemaine and duchess of Cleveland). In 1672 he was married to the daughter and heiress of the earl of Arlington and created earl of Euston; in 1675 he was created duke of Grafton.
