The Story of the Glittering Plain was a book that inspired Tolkien, and this reprint is part of a series called “The professor’s bookshelf” that has a number of such books. When I was first captivated by Tolkien as a small boy in a small town in New England in the 60s, I thought I was stumbling on a great secret world.

First published in 1890 in the English Illustrated Magazine, The Story of the Glittering Plain was re-published in 1973 as the first volume of the celebrated Newcastle Forgotten Fantasy Library.
