Sigvard Bernadotte was the first member of the Swedish Royal Family to get an academic degree when he in 1929 graduate with a bachelor’s in art history and English at Uppsala University. Thereafter Bernadotte got prompted by the architect Ferdinand Boberg to study art, and he began taking lessons from the artist Olle Hjortsberg.

Sigvard Bernadotte. The Swedish prince Sigvard Bernadotte (1907-2002) was an internationally recognized designer, illustrator and industrial designer. In 1929 Bernadotte saw the exhibition of Gunnar Asplund in Stockholm which was the breakthrough of functionalism. This inspired Bernadotte to act by the ideals of the functional design.
