Ava Cherry, née en 1953 à Woodlawn, Illinois, est une chanteuse soul et modèle américaine. Sous l'impulsion du chanteur britannique David Bowie , dont elle est alors la maîtresse et une des choristes , elle monte le groupe Ava Cherry & The Astronettes qui enregistre notamment les premières compositions de la période soul de Bowie.

18 de ago. de 2022 · On the second of a two-night stint he met Ava Cherry – the 17-year-old from Chicago with short, peroxide hair who would soon become his backing singer. Her first gig was at Ziggy Stardust’s final appearance, The 1980 Floor Show, filmed at London’s Marquee in October that year. “When I met David he was infamous but not famous,” she says.
28 de mar. de 2020 · Cherry’s next album, Picture Me, once again on the Capitol label, dropped in 1987. Released devoid of fanfare, sales suffered. In fact, Cherry’s unsuccessful album releases occurred because the labels tried to make her a disco artist even though disco was moribund by 1979.
