Pedro II of Brazil was the second and last emperor of Brazil. Despite his popularity among Brazilians, Pedro II was removed from his throne in 1889 after a 58-year reign. He was promptly exiled with his family. Despite his deposition, he did not make an attempt to regain power. He died in late 1891 while in Paris, France, after two years in exile.
Hace 6 días · Dom Pedro was born second-in-line to the imperial throne of Brazil during the reign of his grandfather, Emperor Dom Pedro II. Following the military coup that deposed his family in 1889, he lived the end of his adolescence and part of his adult life in exile largely in France, first at a family palace in Boulogne-sur-Seine and later at the family's Château d'Eu in Normandy .
Indeed, following a series of small revolts in the 1830s that questioned the empire’s legitimacy and what Brazil stood for, the country’s elites pushed for Pedro II to assume power four years early. He did so in 1840, and would rule the “Second Empire” for the next 59 years. Further Reading

Dom Pedro II was born at São Cristóvão Palace (Quinta da Boa Vista), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on December 2, 1825. He was the son of Emperor Dom Pedro I and Empress Dona Maria Leopoldina, and was given the name Pedro de Alcântara João Carlos Leopoldo Salvador Bebiano Francisco Xavier de Paula Leocádio Miguel Gabriel Rafael Gonzaga de Bragança.
