Peter Hällje, excompañero de banda del exmiembro de Ghost Martin Persner, afirmó que diseñó el personaje Papa Emeritus en 2005, antes de la formación de Ghost. Hällje nunca actuó como Papa Emeritus y acordó con Persner que le permitiera usar el personaje para su entonces nueva banda. [139] Esto fue confirmado más tarde por Forge.
