Princess Adelheid was born on 23 February 1800 at Schaumburg Castle. She was the second daughter of Victor II, Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym, and Princess Amelia of Nassau-Weilburg. Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym (originally Anhalt-Zeitz-Hoym) was a German principality and member of the Holy Roman Empire. The death of Prince Victor Amadeus of Anhalt-Bernburg in 1718 resulted in the partition of his land, with his second son Prince Lebrecht inheriting what was originally known as Anhalt-Zeitz-Hoym .
She was the eldest daughter of Victor II, Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym, and Princess Amelia of Nassau-Weilburg. Hermine had three younger sisters: Adelheid, Emma, and Ida. Marriage. She was married 30 August 1815 at Schaumburg Castle. The princess was just 17 years old when she married the 39-year-old archduke.
