Many Mamas, Many Papas Album John Phillips John Edmund Andrew Phillips (August 30, 1935 – March 18, 2001) was an American singer, guitarist, songwriter and promoter, most notably of the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival.
John and Michelle were divorced in 1970, and Michelle went on to a successful acting career. John increasingly grew involved in the drug scene, a fall from grace candidly documented in his excellent autobiography, Papa John. After a well-publicized drug bust, Phillips cleaned up and re-formed the Mamas and the Papas in 1982.
John re-formed the Mamas and the Papas in '81 with his daughter Mackenzie, Denny Doherty and Elaine "Spanky" McFarlane (Scott McKenzie later replaced Denny). They recorded many tracks (including fantastic new Phillips songs) but didn't release them; here are the best plus a CD of live ones!
