Florence was a longtime resident of North Hollywood and was also a noted artist, having a number of her paintings highlighted in local art galleries. She studied art with Manheim, Chetesu and her mother, Carrie Gilbert, who was the official artist for the state of Oregon. In 1986, Carrie's Indian paintings were still on display in Oregon.
