John Cleves Symmes (1742-1814) whose name is famous in the history of the Middle West for his connection with the "Symmes Purchase" and the founding of the city of Cincinnati. Like his brother, Timothy Symmes was said to have taken "an active part in the cause of liberty in the Revolutionary war."

13 de oct. de 2014 · Judge John Cleves Symmes of New Jersey purchased a huge tract of land "between the Miamis" (rivers) stretching from the Ohio River to the Greenville Treaty Line that became known as the Miami Purchase. Symmes helped found the town of North Bend. His daughter, Anna Symmes, married William Henry Harrison, later President of the United States.
