Philip III and his nephew Count Philip IV of Waldeck-Wildungen appointed the Lutheran reformer Johann Hefentreger as pastor of the town of Waldeck. Johann gave his inaugural sermon on 17 June 1526. On 26 June 1526, he led a Lutheran church service , thereby officially introducing the Reformation in the county, four months before Landgrave Philip I introduced the Reformation in neighbouring Hesse .
Barbara of Wertheim. Philip I, Count of Waldeck (1445–1475) was briefly Count of Waldeck -Waldeck in Germany in 1475. He was the son of Count Wolrad I and his wife Barbara of Wertheim. She was an extraordinary beauty, with—you guessed it—fair skin and ruby lips but blonde instead of dark hair, as depicted in later versions of the story.
Philip was born at Eisenberg Castle on 25 November 1613 as the second son of Count Christian of Waldeck-Wildungen and his wife Countess Elisabeth of Nassau-Siegen. As the eldest surviving son Philip succeeded his father early 1638, while his younger brother John II became Count of Waldeck-Landau .
