Mais si on le replace dans le contexte où sa vie s’est déroule, on s’aperçoit qu’elle participe du trouble et des désordres où la Noblesse s’est débattue au moment où la Monarchie a commencé à s’affermir et à surmonter la crise déclenchée par les Guerres de Religion.

After studies in Paris , Orléans , Geneva , and Lyon , he joined the Huguenot forces and served throughout the Wars of Religion on the battlefield and in the council chamber.
Constant d’Aubigné, né en 1585, et fils de l’écrivain Agrippa d’Aubigné, est un aventurier protestant. Menant une vie de débauche, il assassine sa première femme en 1619 dans une auberge de Niort, au motif qu’elle aurait été infidèle. Ayant abjuré sa foi calviniste, il est renié par son père.
Agrippa d'Aubigné évoque, en effet, ce projet, mais affirme y avoir renoncé ", et il le motive tout autrement : il voulait «garantir sa personne des puantes actions de son proche»1*. Constant avait, en effet, trahi la confiance du roi d'Angleterre, et joué, pour ainsi dire, le rôle d'espion pour le service de Louis XIII.
